Screen Printing FAQ

Screen printing is a printing technique that uses a mesh screen to transfer ink onto a surface, typically fabric, creating vibrant, durable designs ideal for custom apparel and promotional items.

Screen printing works by using a stencil (called a screen) to apply layers of ink onto a substrate, usually fabric. The process involves the following steps:

  1. Creating the Screen: A screen is made by coating a fine mesh with a light-sensitive emulsion and then exposing it to light with the desired design. The areas of the design that are exposed to light harden, while the rest remains soft and is washed away, creating a stencil.

  2. Preparing the Surface: The material to be printed, such as a t-shirt, is placed on a flat surface under the screen.

  3. Applying Ink: Ink is applied to the top of the screen and spread across the surface using a squeegee. The ink passes through the open areas of the stencil onto the material below.

  4. Curing: The printed material is then heated (cured) to set the ink, ensuring durability and vibrant colors.

  5. Repeating for Multiple Colors: If the design has multiple colors, the process is repeated with different screens for each color.

The result is a high-quality, durable print that can withstand washing and wear.

Screen printing produces bold, vibrant designs with a slightly raised texture. The colors are rich and opaque, with sharp, well-defined edges, and the prints are durable, maintaining their look after many washes.
